The second iteration of my hat is done, and I am much happier with this version than the first one. It actually fits my head! The stripes turned out the way I wanted! It’s slouchy, but not comically so!

Pattern: my own (I’ve nicknamed it Urban Whatever on Ravelry)
Yarn: almost exactly two skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas 100% Alpaca Sport
Needles: 3.0 mm dpns and a 3.25 mm circular needle
Despite the fact that this hat uses very small needles (those are US size 2 1/2 and 3), it actually went pretty quickly. I knit the hat itself in about three days (you could definitely pull it off in a weekend, if you weren’t doing much). The biggest delay was actually blocking – the hat took two full days to dry because of the summer humidity! I’m really glad that I did block this, though, because that was totally the key to getting the shape that I wanted out of this hat: I knit it a little too big and a little too short, and then blocked it taller.
I’d like to write this up as a pattern, I think, so stay tuned for that!

Ahhh, this blob of white ribbing. Some of you may remember it from quite a while ago, most of you probably don’t. It’s the very-near-end of a throw pillow, requested by my mother over Thanksgiving (Real Thanksgiving, not the American one.) as a Christmas present.
We’re both a little absent-minded, so it’s taken a while to get completed, but I finally finished the knitting a day or two ago. Now all that’s left is to finish the sewing and pop on the buttons – I can’t tell you guys how much I can’t wait to have this project out of my life and in the recipient’s hands.

Okay. So there are really two ways to explain these photos:
one) I went to an early Halloween party a couple of nights ago, and I’m feeling in the creepy-Halloween-y spirit.
two) There are only so many interesting ways to photograph a giant blob of white knitting, and I am sort of sleepy.
You can choose your favourite. This is more of the throw pillow from this entry, but quite a bit larger. I’ve made it through the first side, and I’m now working my way down the back of the pillow, which is a little bit different from the front. Because I like knitting things all in one piece as much as I possibly can, this looks sort of silly right now, but trust me. It’s going to be cool.
