I’ve had a long few weeks of days where I get up before 5 AM, lately, for school. I’m definitely learning a lot, but I’m also definitely learning that I don’t want to have this kind of lifestyle when I grow up. Early starts and long days are getting to me.

I’ve been lucky enough to get most of my weekends off, though, and last weekend, the most awesome thing happened. That pile of tan yarn that I kept knitting but had trouble photographing went into the sink.

And then it turned into this.

Which, when it’s had time to dry, will totally be an Idlewood sweater.

So even though my life is keeping me on my toes, now that fall TV has started up again, I’m finding it much easier to find time to knit. We will ignore what this says about my priorities – the point is, I’m much farther along on my new cardigan, and super excited about it.

I find the alternating cables really fun, and this pattern is one that’s extraordinarily easy to memorize. After the first repeat, I didn’t need to look at the chart at all, except to keep track of whether or not I was on a cable row.

I also had dinner with Laura a couple of days ago, near Koreatown, and while I was waiting for her I wandered down the street to see if I could pick up some of the snacks I used to love while I was living there. And then I had a bit of fun playing with cookies and my macro lens.

My life has suddenly amped up from “acceptably busy” to “ridiculously busy,” and the time I have for knitting is very quietly shrinking. However, I managed to find some time this weekend to decompress, and get a little bit done. For one thing, my Austin Hoodie is off the needles and waiting for me to weave in the ends, which I’m really excited about.

And – after accidentally buying a sweater’s worth of madelinetosh tosh dk at Lettuce Knit a couple of weeks ago – I’ve cast on for another sweater in its place.

Predictably, it’s blue, which – whatever. I’ve got red hair, I’m allowed to have a closet full of sweaters in blues and purples and greens. (But mostly blues and purples, let’s be honest.)

This is the “Baltic” colourway, which I stared at lovingly across the store for about an hour before deciding to buy it. I was really concerned that it might pool, since it looks so variegated in the skein, but it looks gorgeous and much more subtle when it’s knit up. Hopefully this week I’ll get a bit more time to play with it.
