The past while has been even busier than usual for me, and I’ve been having trouble finding time to craft – and even more trouble finding time to take pictures of my crafts when the light is nice.
I had planned to take pattern photos for Glenna this weekend, and fortunately she was nice enough to take a few pictures of me in my finished sweater after we were finished.
This is an awfully nice sweater. I’ve worn it a couple times since I finished blocking it, and every time I do it makes me happy. It’s the perfect transition sweater – the fabric is dense enough that it’s super warm, but the whole sweater is light enough that I can wear it when it’s a bit warmer without overheating.
I am also really pleased by the general effect of the stripes, and by the fit. I worked really hard to size this sweater appropriately, so that it looked fitted but wasn’t so tight that it gave me Pointy Cardigan Button Bands, which is a look that is not my favourite.
(The yarn is Malabrigo Sock, and the pattern is Paulie. More details on my Ravelry project page)
I do have one complaint with this sweater, and that’s the garter yoke. Before I started, I read through a lot of the Ravelry project pages, and I noticed a lot of people commenting on wishing they’d done the yoke on a smaller needle. It wasn’t quite clear to me what they meant, but now that I’ve knit the whole sweater, I understand. The issue is that the garter stitch has a tendency to stretch, and with the weight of the sweater, the cute shawl-collar gradually migrates into something like this.
I am wondering if a second blocking might help, but apart from that, I’m not really sure what to do. It’s hardly a sweater dealbreaker, but it is something I notice, and if there is a way to fix it (without reknitting the sweater), I’d love to try.
