sort of the opposite of sock yarn stashing

So, I go back to school in about a week, and to prepare I’ve been trying to clean my apartment and get rid of clutter, so that I start off on the right foot. (I am really, really bad at cleaning when I have schoolwork to do.)

One of the things I ended up doing was going through my shelves and tidying things up, which is when I discovered this:

mess-trio

Three pairs of socks, in various stages of seriously-almost-finished-ness, hiding in the bookcase. One of these pairs is finished except for the grafting, the other two consist of a full finished sock and a second sock knit to the heel. This is just embarrassing.

It also means that, for the next little while, I’m going to be putting my sweater projects on hold, and working on these pairs (plus the pair I started this month with my MSF yarn). My goal is to have them all finished and in my sock drawer sometime in the very, very near future. It’ll be great – I’ll have warm toes, a cleaner apartment, and I can start all the new projects I’ve been dreaming about (more on those later) with a clear conscience.

hat-detail

Those of you who read this by checking the main site may have noticed some very bizarre things happening a couple days ago – I apologize. I’ve been tooling around with the back end to get the blog properly set up on swayinglights.com, and it took a little bit of trial and error that meant doing some funny things to the main page for a while.

And hey, speaking of trial and error (see what I did there?), I’ve taken a short break from my sweaters and started working away at something old:

hat-big

This is the first attempt at a hat I knit most of in the spring, before discovering that the end result was almost comically too large to fit any real person’s head – even as a slouchy beret, which is what I’m trying to make. I ripped back a couple of days ago (I’m on this kick where I’m cleaning out my ‘half-finished projects’ basket), and I’m hoping this one works.

I suppose I should blog this, since progress on my cardigan is going, but not as dramatic as I’d like. These are the socks that sprung from the Knitters Without Borders yarn, a few weeks ago.

They’re – actually, having put them away and taken them out after a break, they are not as bad as I remembered them being. But the pooling is pretty vicious, and I don’t think there’s really anything to be done about that.

However, the yarn itself is fantastic. This is my first time knitting with BMFA Socks that Rock, and I am really enjoying working with it. It feels nice in my hands, and I’m hoping it holds up well to washing and wearing, because it’d be lovely to have an excuse to work with it again.
