This would be the stack of notes I need to learn for my latest exam, coming up this week. I’ve been a little on-and-off about knitting while I study, despite the fact that knitting really really helped back in November, when I was working on that sweater I love for NaKniSweMo. But I think a lot of that has been because, when exams roll around, I don’t always have a project that I’m in love with. That, apparently is the trick.
I’ve had six skeins of Lorna’s Laces Worsted sitting in my stash for a few months now, waiting for the Holy Grail of Sweater Patterns. I thought maybe that pattern was going to be Francis, or this button-sleeve raglan (without the dorky Harry Potter lettering), but then I saw elevenstitches’ cardigan adaptation of Owls, and thought to myself, “. . .aha.”

A few swatches and a lot of math later, and I think I have something to help me destress while I’m studying this time around.

As promised, this yarn is turning into something pink and knitted. Specifically, a pair of squishy pink mittens for myself, because I apparently if I don’t have a cabled project on my needles at all times, I have some kind of physiological reaction.
The pattern, for those interested, is Hermione’s Cable-and-Bobble Mittens, from atypically-knit, and it’s amazing. LIke, I can’t quite explain why making bobbles is as fun as it is, but I love doing it and mittens give me an excuse, because it doesn’t matter that bobbles sort of look like nipples when they’re for a garment that goes on my hands.

Dudes. My saddle-shoulder cardigan? Is saddled. It is yoked. It is any other adding-gear-to-beasts-of-burden term you can possibly think of. It is DONE.
Well, okay, it’s not done. It is sort of done, in the sense that all I have to do to finish it is a) learn to crochet, b) crochet the steeks, c) cut the steeks, and d) pick up and knit the button bands. Oh, and then e) buy and sew on some buttons. But WHATEVER that is basically done. And the bulk of the knitting is done, which is the really important part. I’ll just be here, resting my laurels, until I get a chance to go down to the store and pick up a crochet hook. It feels good.
