My life has suddenly amped up from “acceptably busy” to “ridiculously busy,” and the time I have for knitting is very quietly shrinking. However, I managed to find some time this weekend to decompress, and get a little bit done. For one thing, my Austin Hoodie is off the needles and waiting for me to weave in the ends, which I’m really excited about.

And – after accidentally buying a sweater’s worth of madelinetosh tosh dk at Lettuce Knit a couple of weeks ago – I’ve cast on for another sweater in its place.

Predictably, it’s blue, which – whatever. I’ve got red hair, I’m allowed to have a closet full of sweaters in blues and purples and greens. (But mostly blues and purples, let’s be honest.)

This is the “Baltic” colourway, which I stared at lovingly across the store for about an hour before deciding to buy it. I was really concerned that it might pool, since it looks so variegated in the skein, but it looks gorgeous and much more subtle when it’s knit up. Hopefully this week I’ll get a bit more time to play with it.

what i did with my summer vacation

So this summer, one of my goals was to make sure I traveled at least a little. This is year is the last one where I’ll have a “summer vacation” before I start studying in earnest and need to be a responsible grownup, and – since it’s been a goal of mine, for a few years now – I thought this year would be a good one to go to Comic Con with a few friends.

It. Was. Awesome.

I saw a lot of people dressed as superheroes, and met up with rad knitters for a bit, and saw a lot of really, really excellent panels that I can’t believe I was allowed to go to. One of the really interesting things about going was seeing the odd sort of subculture that develops within the convention itself – basic social rules suddenly change the second you get that badge and actually step into the convention hall. For instance, despite the fact that I’m sure most of the people at the convention are not three hour line sorts of people, once you’re there, it becomes totally reasonable to wait in line for something (like getting to see a panel with the cast of Fringe, be still my heart) for two or three hours. This may have happened to me more than once over my four day trip.

This is my Bellevue. When I left, I’d finished the body and most of one sleeve. Thanks to all of those long lines, it very nearly became The Sweater I Finished At Comic Con. As it is, I’m moving merrily along on the yoke (which goes quickly), and getting very excited about having this in my wardrobe.

what time is it, etc.

After a month of going back and forth between my city and the place I was doing my internship-ish work, and a lot of weeks being very highly scheduled, I’m finally done. And settled in my apartment. With my cat, who really enjoyed herself at F’s but is absolutely beside herself with excitement at being back in the apartment with the nice big windowsills.

I had delicious, awesome bread for breakfast, made by a friend of mine.

And I’ve got new knitting on the needles, the beginnings of a Bellevue cardigan.

In other words, I’m really, really excited that I finally get to treat summer like summer, and spend a solid few weeks relaxing.
