As spring springs, I’ve been working on getting some half- and mostly-finished projects off my needles and into either the “finished” pile or the “frogged” pile. This pair of socks obviously falls into the former. I don’t know how long I’ve been working on them, since I don’t think I started a Ravelry entry when I cast on, but I remember knitting on them sometime last July, so. It’s been a while.

(They were also my go-to portable knitting when I went to New York, wayyyy back in August, which is when I finished the first sock of the pair.)

The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock, on 2.75mm needles, and I believe the colourway is Jingle Bell Rock. I have not had great luck with STR colourways – I don’t know if it’s the yarn or the size of my feet or a combination of both. I have never been good at the “work out how many stitches to cast on to make this yarn not pool” game, so I’ve mostly come to terms with pooling in my variegated socks, but I tend to get some extra aggressive pooling with this particular yarn. These socks are clearly no exception. I kind of like it, though? They’re very cheery and festive, in an eye-searing sort of way.

The stitch pattern is Gentleman’s Fancy Socks, from Knitting Vintage Socks, which is one of my favourites. It’s a dead easy pattern to memorize, and the almost-mindless seven-row repeat is a nice incentive to keep knitting just a few more rounds whenever I pick them up.

I’m moving this week – while school is still in session. This seemed like a really good idea when I planned it (in March), but in fact it was a terrible idea and I’m very sorry and I’ll never, ever do it again. I do have new knitting, but the odds of me getting it photographed to show you guys are pretty slim (which is a shame, because my new pink socks are looking awesome).

I do have some photos that I realize I’ve yet to blog, though, so I thought I’d share that with you all.

Socks!

I knit these with leftovers from Dad’s Christmas socks, and my glitter socks, both in Dream in Color sock yarns. The put-up for these yarns is truly excellent, and amount of each skein that I had left over after knitting a pair of socks was truly impressive – so impressive that I managed to knit myself a whole pair of socks from them. (Even if they are a little shorter than I like my socks)

Whether or not I’m excited about, spring appears to have sprung, finally. On the one hand, I’m a little disappointed, because the time for sweater-weather seems to be disappearing, and my sweater is still on my needles, taunting me. (Apparently, when you have to sew a sweater together, finishing the knitting does not in fact mean that you are “basically done.”)

On the other, it makes finishing these socks yesterday seem kind of fitting.

These are the socks I started months ago, with my delicious ball of Dream In Color Starry (that would be the DiC with SPARKLES in it) in “Spring Tickle.” The pattern is a variation on Nancy Bush’s “Gentleman’s Fancy Sock” – I knit a pair for my Dad for Christmas, and something about the stitch pattern appealed to me so much that I wanted some for myself. These socks are lovely, and they fit and sparkle and are squishy as anything else. I really, really love when knitting comes together like this.
